Hair Care

Most people think about preventing hair loss only after they have lost a lot of it. But if you start early it works out a lot easier both emotionally and financially. In fact, the truth is - preventing hair loss is a simpler process than treating hair loss. So here are a few things you can do to prevent your hair from falling:

1. Follow a Healthy Lifestyle

Hair, like your skin and your nail, is often a barometer of general health. If you are healthy, your hair will probably look good. And if your hair is falling, it could be a sign of possible health problems.

So everything you do for good health also applies to hair: eat
fruits and vegetables (Vitamin B, Iron, Calcium and Zinc have especially been linked to healthy hair); always consume a protein-rich diet (hair is made of proteins), and drink adequate water.

2. For Dandruff
  • Massage the Scalp with pure coconut oil. This will also help for growth of hair.
  • Apply the warm mixture of olive oil, lemon juice and coconut oil. Do a steam -towel- wrap for 15 minutes and wash the hair with a shampoo.
  • Apply coconut oil which has been boiled with small onions. Wash it off with a mixture of green gram powder and water drained from cooked (boiled) rice.
  • Apply a mixture of almond oil and gooseberry juice with finger tips on the scalp.
  • Apply a paste of fenugreek and mustard to the scalp.
  • Crush the leaves of five petal hibiscus flower and take the juice. Wash the hair with this juice.

3. For Healthy and Shiny hair
  • It is better to apply castor oil for a healthy growth of hair.
  • Wash hair with tea once in a week.
  • Massage hair with warm coconut oil an hour before washing. Let it soak. Cover your head with a hot towel and wash your hair after an hour or so.
  • Boil a few hibiscus flowers in coconut oil. Filter and use this hair oil to control hair loss and thinning.
  • Do a 'steam-towel-wrap' once in a while, if your cuticles are damaged, as this steaming opens out the pores and absorbs the oil.
  • Mix a little vinegar in warm water and rinse your hair with this solution. This will add bounce to dull and lifeless hair.
  • Soak 1 teaspoon fenugreek in curd and keep it for a night. Have it in the next morning.
  • Boil coconut oil with the juices of curry leaves, basil, hibiscus flower and gooseberry. Apply on hair, keep it for some time and rinse.
  • Egg white and curd is a good conditioner for hair.

4. Sources of food for healthy hair:

a.     Protein

You know you need adequate protein to build muscle—and you also need it for healthy hair because hair is made primarily of protein. Low-quality protein can lead to weak, brittle hair or a loss of hair color—but chances are, if you're trying to add or maintain muscle, you already eat enough.

Good sources: Chicken, turkey, beef, eggs, low-fat dairy (cottage cheese, milk, yogurt)

b.    Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron, so a deficiency can make hair dry and weak. You likely take in enough C from your diet, as long as you eat a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.

Good sources: Broccoli, leafy greens, green peppers, citrus fruit, strawberries.

c.      Biotin

A lack of adequate biotin can lead to brittle hair, but deficiencies are rare, White says. This vitamin will help you have thick hair as well as strong nails. (That may not sound important, but women like guys with nice hands.)

Good sources:
Brown rice, legumes, lentils, eggs, Swiss chard, nuts

Hence, Never ever take your hair for granted. The quote “Prevention is better than cure” fully applies to your hair too. Remember, you will sorely miss those beautiful tresses if you let them go away!
